>Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People are never satisfied with what they have. They always want something more or something different. Use specific reasons to support your answer.
It is difficult not to agree that people are never satisfied with what they have because what mainly moves human activities are need and pride. They always want more when more is needed, whereas the average person believes he or she is above average, being proud of possessing something different. However, there are dangers of need becoming greed, and pride becoming vanity.
How the excessive need turns out to be the insatiable greed is worthy of thought. Greed seems to be a bottomless pitch which exhausts one in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction. Too much greed is a dangerous ambition, especially when it comes to harming others' interests. The point is therefore not to go beyond moral borders of necessity because one who is greedy is always in want. To greed, all nature is insufficient. In fact, it is possible that the world may provide enough to satisfy everyone's need, but not everyone's greed.
Often vanity goes hand in hand with greed, neither knowing the limits. Vanity is the ugly side of pride. People are eager to have something different, admirably superior, to be proud of, but they had better be proud without being vain. The difference is that while pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us. Probably, the highest form of vanity is certainly not self-satisfaction, but is love of fame. Vanity is so secure in the heart of everyone that everyone wants to be admired.
In many cases, the words pride or vanity, and need or greed, are used synonymously to an extent that there are risks about clearly defining the word satisfaction. Although such need to always want more of the same and such pride to always own different things can make success happen in life, actually the paths of greed and vanity may ironically lead to one's downfall in the end. Whatever the case, it is only too natural that human beings are never satisfied with what they have.
