Playing sports can teach people lessons about life.
Team sports would enable participants to realize the value of cooperation. To achieve success, a group needs to fully utilize the advantages of every individual, and have the flaws covered. Thus, with such mindsets, group members will be willing to distribute tough tasks and even make some sacrifice to ensure the biggest probability of winning. For example, Jasper, the best basketball player of my college, used to complain to me that despite the fact that he scored two thirds of the points the team had, the team never had a consecutive win. But the situation has been improved when he realized that the game is not about himself but the whole team. He reduced his shooting attempts, shouldered more defense responsibility, which thanks to his height and weight, he is pretty good at, and encouraged his teammates to play more aggressively. Due to his sacrifice, his teammates have more space, obtaining more shooting opportunities from behind the three-points line. As a result of their consolidated efforts, although his personal statistics is not as glamorous as it used to be, the ranking of the team is now among the top three of our league. And most of all, they have all realize what a difference cooperation and coordination can bring about to a team.
